GC2011 FAQs

What is GC?

GC is short for Geography Challenge or the NUS GEOGRAPHY CHALLENGE to be exact. Organised by the NUS GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY, GC 2011 is in it's 15th year this year.

Who is GC for?
GC is a nation wide competition open to all secondary schools in Singapore. The age limit for this year is 13-16 but we recommend schools to send in students from the upper secondary level.

When is GC?
GC has 4 components to the competition, spanning 2 months. The 4 components are Preliminary Round, Creative Component, Geo-trail and Finals. This year the Preliminary Round will be held on the 26th February 2011.

What exactly is the creative component?
Students will be given a time frame to work on a project that challenges them to think out of the box and create a final product. The final product varies each year, this year the component will require students to create a travelogue. More information will be provided on the day of the Prelims.

Can students take part in other rounds of the competition if they are not shortlisted to be the 30 finalists?
Yes. The creative component is open to ALL participating schools even if they are not shortlisted. All stand to win exciting prizes. Geo-trail and Finals however are restricted to the participation of the finalists. All are welcome to sit in for the Finals which will be held on the 2nd of April.
